Royal Air Force Typhoon jets have conducted a mission with French warplanes in a coordinated attack against an subterranean weapons facility in Syrian territory employed by the Daesh militant organization, per a report from the UK's MoD.

The facility, pinpointed through reconnaissance, was believed to be containing munitions and bombs, the release indicated, and was positioned in mountains just to the north of the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria's central region.

"Our aircraft utilized Paveway IV guided bombs to hit a number of entry passages providing entry to the depot... early reports suggest the objective was successfully hit," the MoD said.

There was no evidence of any civilian casualties in the operation on Saturday evening and every plane involved made a safe return, the ministry further stated.

The Typhoon fighters were supported by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.

Daesh - referred to as Daesh - imposed militant control over significant areas in Iraq and Syria before its territorial defeat in 2019.

"This operation shows the UK's leading role, and resolve to work closely with our partners, to stamp out any re-emergence of IS and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the Middle East," UK Defence Secretary the minister said.

RAF aircraft have performed overwatch operations over Syrian airspace to "prevent any efforts to regroup" of the group subsequent to its routing at the climactic battle in Baghuz in the year 2019, the ministry said.

"I must thank all the members of British forces involved in this strike for their skill and their bravery," Healey added. "Including them were numerous UK service members stationed over Christmas and New Year. This mission, to remove terrorist threats who pose a risk to our security, shows how our armed forces are prepared to act, continuously, keeping Britain secure at home and powerful internationally."

During December, the United States armed forces executed what it termed a "major assault" on IS targets in Syria, following an assault killed two US servicemembers and a local interpreter in the Palmyra area.

The UN reports IS still has roughly 5-7 thousand combatants in Syria and Iraq.
