19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with former trainer his previous coach.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent saved four early-game opportunities in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
